Built against the breathtaking backdrop of the Kariba Gorge, the lodge has its own private beachfront and each room has expansive Zambezi River views. Whether relaxing or out on our customised boat birding, game viewing or fishing, the camp provides the perfect base.

Situated at the very end of the Kariba Gorge, 27km from the iconic Kariba dam wall and 40km from Chirundu Town, Little Nyamoumba is nestled up against the dramatic rocky backdrop of the gorge. With the Zambezi River right on the camp’s doorstep, most activities are water-based in our specially customised boats. Small and intimate, Little Nyamoumba is perfect for casually luxurious private getaways.

Built on a ridged river bank, Little Nyamoumba has spectacular views of the Zambezi and its’ own private beachfront perfect for evening sundowners around the built-in firepit and dinners under the stars. Wash the beach sand off under the open-air shower and enter the main area, offering a dining room with an interactive kitchen, a well-stocked bar and a comfortable lounge area, all decorated in an easy African contemporary style. Tea, coffee and freshly baked biscuits are always to hand as are our friendly staff. Electricity is available 24 hours a day from our on-site solar farm. A private viewing platform is perched above the river expanse offering spectacular sunsets.

Every one of the three chalets at Little Nyamoumba has incredible river views, setting the scene for private meditation, reading great books or just watching the river flow by. Air conditioning powered by our on-site solar farm keeps rooms cool no matter the outside temperatures. Comfortable king-sized beds can be converted to two single beds by request and an extra bed added for children as needed. Mosquito nets are let down at turn down, setting you up for a perfect night’s sleep, ready for an early morning wake-up call to a riverine safari. Every chalet features high-pressure solar geysers in bathrooms set up with his and her sinks, all furnished with brass fittings along with full flush toilets. A generous supply of amenities including soaps, body wash, shampoo and conditioner, loofahs, lip balm, sunscreen and mosquito repellent along with fluffy white towels complete the in-room spa feeling.

Soon to come is an open-air star deck room for romantic nights under the twinkling African skies.

Bird and game viewing by boat and on the neighbouring islands are on offer, with boat trips right up into the Kariba Gorge itself. Birding is particularly good here with frequent siting of the rare Pel’s fishing owl, Black Eagles and Narina Trogons in season, with viewing by boat offering a unique edge to your birding trip. Life jackets are worn on all water-based activities.

Catch and release fishing of all species is another exciting water activity, with this stretch of river home to the highly sought-after Tiger Fish. A fierce fighter, this game fish offers excellent sport and toothy trophy shots when landed. Our specially equipped boats have USB charging points so you will never miss recording your catch or siting.

We will be offering game drives on the mainland and walking safaris by request shortly so please confirm these activities with us when booking. Our professional guides are as at home on the water as on the land, so every trip is a discovery, with our seasoned boat captains in the know of all the best spots on the river. Private booking of boats and vehicles can be arranged by prior request at an additional charge.

With Julian and Ashley, the real-life bush parents of three, children are most welcome in camp and should be under the supervision of their parents or a guardian at all times. No matter their age, your guide will make sure that children enjoy their experience as much as adults do.

Please note when booking that in the rooms, all children under the age of 14 should be accompanied by one parent or legal guardian.

Delicious meals are core to your experience at Nyamoumba, with Ashley’s special menus put together to reflect the seasons.

Early wake-ups come with freshly baked muffins, followed by continental and full English breakfasts later in the day. Wholesome lunches focus on fresh produce, followed by wonderful desserts. Afternoon teas fill in any spaces left before generous 3-course dinners. River cruises are treated to a variety of canapes.

We can cater for all dietary requirements and any food allergies with prior notice – it’s a speciality of Ashley and her chef team to create mouth-watering alternatives.

Our bar service offers unlimited filtered water, soft drinks, local and South African beers, South African house wines, spirits and liquors. We offer champagne, fine wines, premier scotch and anything not included normally by request at an extra charge.

The Mutondo team will arrange all transfers into and out of camp from your previous destination and to your next. By road and by air, we will make your journey into camp as comfortable as possible.

By road, on commercial roads, private buses will be used, with our especially equipped 4x4 game drive vehicles taking over for the dirt road park sections.

Exciting scenic boat transfers are a unique feature, with pick-ups offered in our especially equipped boats from the canoe launch site below Kariba Dam Wall or from Chirundu town.

For those choosing to fly by private small plane charter, RIFA airstrip and Chirundu airstrip are accessible from camp by dirt park road networks.

Self Drive directions are available on request, but please note you will need an appropriate vehicle.
