Camp Chitubu is built on a ridge overlooking a natural spring deep in the Hwange National Park. This spectacular site lends itself to luxury and leisure, surrounded by Zimbabwe’s finest wildlife. Located in the Sinamatela region of Hwange National Park, just two kilometres from Mandavu dam, the most significant water source in the park, Camp Chitubu’s focus is to give guests unforgettable experiences on foot and by vehicle, focusing primarily on the walking safaris that Zimbabwe is renowned for.

Located in the Sinamatella region of Hwange National Park in the top Northwest corner of Zimbabwe, Camp Chitubu is Hwange’s newest photographic camp, built in 2022. Situated on a natural ridge, the camp and rooms overlook a natural spring that holds water all year round, creating some of the best game viewing from your bed! At just 2km from Mandavu Dam, the biggest water source in the park, the animal concentrations are large and varied. Hwange National Park is known for its diverse wildlife and prolific birdlife - there are over 100 different mammal species in the Park and an estimated 500 bird species. We guarantee a dawn wakeup call of the avian kind and night time serenades by thirsty elephants, hyenas and boundary stating lions. Camp Chitubu’s focus is to give guests unforgettable experiences on foot and by vehicle. Whilst still offering game drives we focus on the walking safaris as this is what Zimbabwe is known for.

Your transfer into Camp Chitubu is a game drive in itself, whether driving from any of the three National Parks entrances or airstrips to our location. On arrival, a large Bedouin tented open main entertainment area is the site of our camp team’s friendly meet and greet to all guests. With an expansive open air view of the salt pan, the space includes dining, bar and lounge areas, stylishly decorated in a contemporary safari look, with an open air fire pit, perfect for nightcaps and storytelling off to the left. Smiling staff are on hand for every need and our guides escort you to your rooms in the evenings in case of any wilder visitors.

Camp Chitubu has 6 spacious luxury tented rooms, built on solid foundations with every convenience. Power is available 24 hours a day, eco-generated in our on-site solar farm.

Each luxury Bedouin tented room has been especially designed to offer floor-to-ceiling panoramic views of the salt pan, perfect for game viewing. Ultra-comfortable beds face the pan, configured either as a generous king bed or two single beds, made up with crisp cotton sheets and blankets. The open wardrobe features hanging and shelf space for all luggage and a private safe.

Bathrooms are at the back of the space, with high-pressure wet room style teak and brass showers, flush toilets and double basins decorated with whimsical creatures in front of a large mirror. Complimentary soaps, body wash and lotions, scrub pads, sunscreen, lip ice, and mosquito repellant turn these spacious bathrooms into your own mini spa. Fluffy towels are in constant supply and laundry is done by request.

At turn down every night, jugs of icy filtered water are placed bedside and the option of rolling down the tented sides is yours to decide. Wake up calls for early safari starts are offered, with the hour softened by great coffee and freshly baked muffins in the main area.

Our aim at Chitubu is to give guests an unforgettable safari experience both by vehicle and on foot – and often in camp itself, as the camp is unfenced. Game drives are offered twice a day or as full day expeditions, as decided with your guide, with special focus on the chance to experience walking on foot, led by our professionals, to make awe inspiring approaches to wild animals. Photographic opportunities are around every corner, no matter what your level of skill and with a shared passion, our guides will help you to get the best shot. If you have a special interest such as birding, please let us know in advance so that we can make sure you have the best experience in this field.

Our 4x4 game drive open vehicles are customised to offer the best view to every client, equipped with 6 tiered seats, three to a side and a custom built storage box between holding complimentary rain ponchos and blankets. We offer USB charging ports in our game drive vehicles for charging of cameras and electrical items. Should you wish to have a private vehicle for you or your family, this can be arranged prior to arrival at an additional charge.

With Julian and Ashley the real life bush parents of three, children are most welcome in camp and should be under the supervision of their parents or a guardian at all times. The age limit for children on a walking safari is 12 years and above, at the discretion of the Pro guide in camp. No matter their age, your guide will make sure that children enjoy their safari experience as much as the adults do.

Please note when booking that in the rooms, all children under the age of 14 should be accompanied by one parent or legal guardian. From the 1st of April, a specially designed family room will be available for bookings.

We pride ourselves on the delicious meals provided at Camp Chitubu, with many of the favourites from Ashley’s extensive secret recipe book. Both continental & full English breakfasts are offered, followed by wholesome lunches with desserts. Game drive canapes and afternoon teas lead into 3 course dinners. If these still leave you wanting a little something extra, our kitchen staff bake fresh biscuits, found along with tea and coffee in the main area any time of the day.

We cater for all dietary requirements & allergies, with Ashley always complimented on the effort she puts in creating delicious alternatives with these requests in mind – all we need is some notice in advance as the nearest supply store is around 300km away!

Our bar service offers unlimited filtered water, soft drinks, local and South African beers, South African house wines, spirits and liquors. We offer champagne, fine wines, premier scotch and anything not included normally by request at an extra charge.

The Mutondo team will arrange all transfers into and out of camp from your previous destination and to your next. By road and by air, we will make your journey into camp as comfortable as possible.

By road, on commercial roads, private buses will be used, with our especially equipped 4x4 game drive vehicles taking over for the dirt road park sections.

For those choosing to fly by private small plane charter, Sinamatella Airstrip, Giraffe Springs and Hwange National Airport are accessible from camp by dirt park road networks.

Self Drive directions are available on request, but please note you will need an appropriate vehicle.
